Redundancy – can there be a selection pool of one?
It is first worth clarifying that a job is made redundant, rather than an employee.
If a number of people do that job, then there is a requirement to select the employees to be dismissed due to redundancy from those people. However, if there is just one person doing the job, there is no valid selection that can be carried out and a selection pool of one may be considered reasonable.
