It has been confirmed that the government intends to introduce a right for bereaved parents to take paid time off work.
Bereaved parents will be able to take leave as a single two-week period, or, as two separate periods of a week. They will have up to 56 weeks from their child’s death to take the leave. This new right will come into force in April 2020, but many organisations may wish to begin preparing for it during 2019, as part of a regular review of their current employee handbook policies and in particular, those associated with bereavement and compassionate leave.
